I WOULD like to congratulate Howard McKay on his letter (South China Morning Post, November 18).

He is right that Hong Kong people only care about victims of natural disasters in China.
The silence of the local press is understandable because they do not deem it necessary to report about the plight of a country which only supplies maids to the territory. Maybe some local charity organisations should have a legend under their official name reading: 'Donations only available for Chinese victims'.
It is a shame how people here view the outside world, whether it be the Philippines or Bosnia.
