A BURGLAR, driven by hunger, asked to be freed so he could return to China to look after his parents. Illegal immigrant Ng Kai-kwan, 22, was jailed for two years on September 9 after admitting burglary and illegally entering the territory. He broke into a Nassau Road flat on September 4 because he was hungry. But a 41-year-old woman sleeping in the flat heard Ng creeping about and called the police. They caught him in the street with six bananas in his hand. Yesterday he appeared in the Court of Appeal to appeal against sentence. 'I felt hungry and wanted to get some food. And I only took food, I didn't take anything else,' he said. Ng said he had to return to China to take care of his parents. But Mr Justice Duffy said he could not reduce the original sentence. 'The seriousness lies not in what was stolen, but with breaking into a private residence in the small hours of the night while it was occupied,' he said.
