ITOCHU Corp, Japan's largest trading house, plans to build distribution centres in seven major Chinese cities, including Guangzhou, Dalian and Chongqing, by the end of 1998, company officials say. In line with an easing of regulations, Tokyo-based Itochu intends to offer nationwide supply services to Japanese and other foreign firms in China. Itochu plans to start with a joint venture in Guangzhou with Osaka-based Maguchi Transportation Co and a local partner. It will be capitalised at US$3 million, 55 per cent by Itochu and 15 per cent by Maguchi. A distribution centre with a fleet of 60 trucks will be built on a 13,000-square-metre site by 1996. The main part of the nationwide network should be completed by 1998 with other centres in Nanjing, Wuhan and Chengdu following by 2000, Itochu said.
