Zhuhai mayor stands down

ZHUHAI mayor Liang Guangda yesterday formally relinquished the mayorship he has held for 11 years.
The resignation was accepted by the Standing Committee of the Zhuhai People's Congress yesterday and a public announcement was issued.
His successor is Huang Longyun, 44, formally director of the Guangzhou Economic and Technology Development Zone.

Mr Huang was immediately named the acting Mayor by the Standing Committee yesterday.
It is expected that Mr Huang will be formally confirmed as the new mayor when the Municipal People's Congress holds its annual full session next spring.

In the announcement, Mr Liang, 60, cited his age and heavy workloads as reasons for stepping down.
