Driven to distraction

I WAS somewhat alarmed to see the recent commercials for BMW cars in which they offer a small TV screen installed in the dashboard, where you would normally expect to find the radio.

Although I have been away from Britain for some time I suspect that it is still illegal to have any visual entertainment device which can be observed by the driver.

Presumably this is also the case for the rest of Europe.

This begs the question if it is still not allowed in Europe where the car is made, is this an option only available in Hong Kong and is it legal here? I feel this is an unnecessary distraction to the already over-committed BMW drivers.

They already need all their faculties to hold the mobile phone and have an animated discussion with the person on the other end while they weave aggressively through the traffic at high speed.

All of this is particularly disturbing as the next logical step is to use the TV screen to play karaoke in the car.
