THE solicitor involved in a US$4.79 million (HK$37 million) passports-for-cash scam whose identity was hushed up during court proceedings is William Kwan Cheuk-yin, it was revealed yesterday.
Mr Kwan's full name and his Central law firm are set out in a court order which entered the Supreme Court Registry records this week.
The order can be viewed by the public and enforces the rulings and penalties of the Solicitors' Disciplinary Tribunal.
The legal profession was accused of hypocrisy after refusing to name Mr Kwan when he appealed this month against the tribunal's ruling.
Mr Kwan, a partner in Woo, Kwan, Lee & Lo, was involved in a racket which conned people into paying up to $120,000 to a Portuguese political party in exchange for a passport.
A total of 77 bogus passports were issued.
