NETWORKING company UB Networks has launched a commercial three dimensional Internet Web site.
The new site, called UB World, is an on-line environment which offers visitors a complete 3-D experience, allowing them to move in and out of virtual buildings and interact with other users and UB employees.
Keith Lee, managing director, UB Networks' North Asia, said: 'UB Networks is the first company in the world and Hong Kong to set up a 3-D Web site. The idea is to provide a much richer, more exciting environment in which to communicate, display and share information on our products and services.
The site is jointly created with UB affiliate World's Inc, and is intended to allow visitors to learn about UB's networking products, services and technical support in a more visually interesting way.
The information in UB World comes in the form of text, graphic and embedded video clips and is grouped into three areas: product information, services and support, and interactive initiatives.
'The sight is very user-friendly and has hi-tech images. The company decided on a 3-D effect because the standard 2-D effects are so boring. With the 3-D effect there is a virtual office and our staff can take the visitors to the site on a real-time personal tour of the office on-line. This could be termed as a way of social-computing,' said Mr Lee.
