A WAR of words has erupted between bitter rivals Instant-Dict and Golden on the eve of their first round clash in the Senior Challenge Shield at Mongkok Stadium tonight. Golden president Simon Wan Chi-lok and Instant-Dict president Thomas Tam Wai-tong traded verbal blows claiming their team to be superior to the other. Wan said Instant-Dict were over-rated and exposed glaring weaknesses in both defence and attack, while Tam said Golden would have to play to 99.9 per cent of their top form to have a chance of drawing with them. It was hype normally reserved for a world heavyweight boxing title fight as the fierce rivals - both on the field and in commerce - get down to serious business as they seek a second round place in the season's first major knock-out trophy. Wan said: 'They [the Dickies] can never beat us. They are not as good as people think. Both their forwards and defenders have a lot of weaknesses that can be easily handled.' Wan is so confident that he even let their former national defender Yeung Kin-keung move to Uhlsport-Rangers yesterday. Although Golden were recently beaten 6-0 by First Division first round champions South China - their first defeat of the season - Wan said his players had already recovered from the humiliation. 'Every match is a new match. As professional players, they should not be bothered by previous defeats,' said Wan. But Instant-Dict president Tam countered: 'If 10 points is the full mark, then Golden have to play as well as 9.9 points to draw with us tonight. 'Our two strikers Paul Foster and Ross Greer are definitely better than Golden's [Lee] Bullen and [Anto] Grabo. 'Golden drew with us last time because they played their best match of the season. But tonight, we will be even better than last time.'
