CHO Yang Shipping, DSR-Senator Lines and Hanjin Shipping have filed an agreement with the US Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) under which the carriers would be permitted to charter space on each other's vessels when sailing on transPacific routes.
The agreement would also allow the carriers to rationalise their sailings in the trade to provide weekly, fixed-day eastbound and westbound services.
One hundred teus of space would be made available on each sailing to each of the other two lines, with extra space being chartered subject to availability and operational criteria.
Parties to the agreement would be able jointly to arrange terminal services but marketing would remain the responsibility of each line.
The agreement should go into effect on January 1 provided the FMC grants the necessary approval.
