A MAN who hoped to sneak into Japan via Hongkong to find a job has been jailed for 16 months. Assistant Crown Counsel Ms Susanna Ku told the District Court that Filipino Arnelio Dalma was deported back to Hongkong from Tokyo after he was found with a Philippines passport bearing a fake US visa by Japanese Immigration. Hongkong police questioned Dalma when he returned to Kai Tak on August 10 and he was arrested for using a forged air ticket. When he had originally left Hongkong he had told airport officials he would stay in Tokyo for one day before going on to the US. Dalma told police he had paid a man in Manila who arranged for him to get a Philippines passport and air ticket. Dalma, 31, pleaded guilty to possessing and using two false instruments. Defence lawyer Mr Edwin Neo said Dalma had a small trading business in the Philippines which his entire family was dependent on. When the business suffered a downturn, he decided to get work outside the country.
