WHAT is the fastest and easiest way to find up-to-date information without leafing through a sea of books? With the provision of the compact disc - read only memory (CD-ROM) search facilities and a collection of 12 CD-ROM databases for public use - readers of the Arts Library at the Hongkong Academy for Performing Arts in Wan Chai will now be able to find the information they need at the touch of a finger. CD-ROM is a medium which uses the same technology as that of the audio compact disc but stores information like text, graphics, data and images. Each disc can store up to 27,000 pages of text. The 12 CD-ROMS available in the modern Arts Library include images of art subjects, indices and abstracts on art and music listings, an index and search programme to plays and dramas, a catalogue of dance collection and summaries of articles in magazines. The CD-ROM search facilities are easy to operate as on-screen instructions are available and no special training is required. This service is also available in the City Hall reference library and the Kowloon Central Library. For bookings, call 734-2042.
