RUMOURS of some of Asia's Finest setting up dubious business ventures in China are the smoking gun of what is shaping up as another police scandal. There have been suggestions for some time that top cops are dabbling in all manner of commercial enterprises, many with shadowy overtures, in seamier parts of the southern provinces. Backbites is pleased that intelligence which has been garnered for months is finally being publicly aired by legislators. No doubt the force's push to oblige senior officers to divulge their assets should result in some interesting disclosures. Or will it? But it shouldn't dampen the police's penchant for karaoke machines to decorate their massage parlours. Cross-border liaison has never been so good for the force's more enterprising members.
