A RECENT announcement by The Office of the Telecommunications Authority that it has decided, in principle, to allow the identity of telephone callers to be revealed to recipients of those calls, raises once again a pledge previously made by The Samaritans' two suicide hotline services in operation in Hong Kong, who are members of Befrienders International, (Multilingual: 2896 0000 and Cantonese: 2382 0000), that our services will not subscribe to any system that reveals the callers' identity, thus protecting their confidentiality completely.
