Trade chief awarded prestigious accolade
HONG KONG Trade Development Council chairman Dr Victor Fung Kwok-king, 50, has been voted the 1995 South China Morning Post /DHL Businessman of the Year.
The award, presented at the Marriott Hotel last night, is the territory's most prestigious business accolade, reflects Dr Fung's contribution to Hong Kong's economic development and his skills as chairman of trading company Li & Fung.
Patrick Wang Shui-chung, managing director of Johnson Electric Industrial Manufacturing, the world's second largest independent maker of micro-motors, was named Executive of the Year.
The Young Entrepreneur Award went to Clarence Wong Wing-Wah, chairman of Gilbert Holdings which supplies flax and linen to the world's leading fashion houses.
Electronic components manufacturer Astron Group won the Enterprise Trophy for transforming from a negative net asset value company into a thriving concern in just five years.
The International Award was won by Lee Kum Kee, which has been in business for a century manufacturing and selling sauces and condiments to markets in 60 countries around the world.
