AIRPORT security and immigration were discussed at talks between Hong Kong and Macau officials yesterday. Secretary for Security Peter Lai Hing-ling met Major-General Lages Ribeiro in the enclave ahead of the opening of the new airport. Mr Lai is believed to have discussed immigration and to have sought details on security at the airport, especially concerns that it may be targeted by organised crime. There was also a review of agreements between police forces in the wake of this year's successful multi-agency investigation of the $10 million jetfoil hijacking. A Security Branch spokesman said the talks were merely routine and there was no 'burning issue' on the agenda. Given Mr Lai's presence in Macau for the airport celebrations, it was appropriate discussions be held, the spokesman said.
