DIRECT high-speed rail and motorway links costing billions of dollars are being planned to Zhuhai and Guangzhou from Macau's new airport.

Talks are also taking place between the authorities in Macau, China and Hong Kong to establish an integrated transit system for passengers and cargo.
This means travellers and freight transiting through Macau would not have to go through time-consuming customs and immigration checks in Macau only to have them repeated in Hong Kong or China.
The Macau Airport Company is hoping visa-free access can be set up by June.
Chairman Dr Antonio Pinto said feasibility studies had been carried out on rail and road schemes.

'They are being discussed by the Portuguese and Chinese governments,' he said.
