A YOUTH and a man who raped a 16-year-old schoolgirl were given lengthy jail sentences at the High Court after being told they had shown no remorse for the crime.

 A jury found Yeung Kit-yung, 17, guilty of two counts of rape and Heaven Fok Fung-hoi, 21, guilty of one count of rape a fortnight ago.

  Yesterday Yeung was jailed for 91/2 years and Fok was sentenced to eight years.

  A third defendant Lo Kit-shing, 16, who was also found guilty of rape was remanded pending psychiatric and psychological reports.

  Lo will be sentenced on January 29. He did not have intercourse with the victim, but assisted the others. The law states that if someone assists in a rape, he can be charged with rape.

  The jury acquitted Yeung of possession of an imitation firearm at the time of committing rape and, on the direction of the court, returned a not guilty verdict regarding Fok and Lo on this charge and Fok on another count of rape.

  Mr Justice Stock found that both men had shown ''no hint of remorse'' for what they had done.

  ''Despite the victim's protests, you violated, degraded and abused her,'' the judge said.

  Mr William Allan, for Yeung, said Yeung was spoiled by his parents and asked for mercy.

  Mr Malcolm Nunns, for Fok, said his client was not the first to take advantage of the victim and no gratuitous violence was used.

  Lo's counsel Mr Guy Holland said his involvement was minimal and was not premeditated.

  During the trial, the court heard evidence called by Senior Crown Counsel Mr Jim Dick that the girl quarrelled with her boyfriend after they had been to a party at a club on September 23 last year.

  She stormed off and drank more alcohol on top of what she had had at the party. She ended up on the Wan Chai harbour front where she felt woozy and went to sleep.

  An accomplice who was found not guilty after the Crown offered no evidence against him, had said that he and a group of friends, including the three defendants, were on the waterfront when Yeung noticed the girl and went to talk to her.

  The group then went to Yeung's flat and he arrived later with the girl, who appeared drunk and had to be supported.

  The court heard that when she woke up in the early hours of the morning, she found herself naked on a bed and Yeung was having sex with her but she had no idea how she got there.

  Despite a violent struggle, she was raped and gagged with a towel. While Lo elected to remain silent, Yeung and Fok testified that they were not at the scene at the time of the offence.
