DATACRAFT Asia has announced expansion into Indonesia through a joint venture with the country's largest Information Technology (IT) company, PT Metrodata Electronics.

   The joint venture is yet to be approved by the government.

   Metrodata will bring local industry and market knowledge to the joint venture.

   Metrodata is the largest IT company in Indonesia with revenues exceeding US$100 million.

    Datacraft Asia will bring product offerings from its major international telecommunications vendors as well as the depth of its pan-Asian communications systems integrator experience.

  The new Indonesian joint venture company, 60 per cent owned by Datacraft Asia and 40 per cent by Metrodata, will have the backing of Datacraft Asia's vast marketing and technical support organisation, including the regional Technical Assistance Centre (TAC) based at the company's recently opened operations centre in Singapore.

  Datacraft Asia managing director and chief executive officer Des Althrop said: 'Our new joint venture in Indonesia is further evidence of our strategy for expansion and growth as the premier telecommunications system integrator in Asia.'     The joint venture will build on Datacraft Asia's existing customer base in Indonesia which includes high profile corporate customers such as the Lippo Bank.

   In addition, Metrodata's close relationships with major corporate accounts in Indonesia will serve to give the company a good head start.

  The president of Metrodata, Lesan Limanardja said: 'Our new partnership with Datacraft Asia is important to us and we see this as a strategic move into this expanding market. The complementary mix of experience and skills of both companies will give the joint venture a competitive advantage in Indonesia.'
