A POLICEMAN wept in court yesterday as he told how he was seduced by an amorous housewife who then accused him of rape. Constable Ip Chin-hung, 34, broke down as he told the High Court jury he had lied about the sexual encounter to a superior officer. In statements to the police, he did not tell them he had sex with the woman. 'At that time, I was out of my mind,' he said. Ip's wife, in the front row of the public gallery, sat with head bowed as Ip described how he had responded to the sexual advances of the 36-year-old woman. But she left court before he told the jury that he had sex with the housewife while still wearing his uniform. Ip, who has been in the force for 13 years, denies raping the woman in her Shamshuipo flat on November 26 last year. But he admitted breaching police procedures to enter her home. Ip said he had been making inquiries about another resident of the block of flats and was desperate to make an arrest because he had not caught a criminal for almost a month. The officer said he had stopped a woman outside the apartment block, checking her identity card because he thought she might be in breach of immigration laws. But he let her go because she was in a hurry. Ip said he thought it over and later decided to return to where the woman said she lived. He admitted breaching rules by entering alone and without informing the police station. Ip told the jury he did not call for assistance because he did not want to trouble other officers. He could not find the woman and, instead, called on the housewife next door. He said she allowed him to search her flat to see if the other woman was hiding there. The officer apologised to her when the search proved fruitless. He said he thought the woman was 'nice' and would not complain about him entering without a warrant. But the situation changed when he asked to see her identification. The court has heard the housewife had overstayed in Hong Kong. The woman had told him: 'I am 30-odd years old. Nothing much to look at. 'If you do not believe me, you may look.' Ip said the woman pulled open her top to reveal her breasts. She leaned against him and fondled his groin. The officer said he responded to her advances and began touching her. He sat on a stool and she lowered her trousers. 'I felt very nervous and excited. It was a matter of visual excitement,' Ip told the jury. The two had sex, he said. Afterwards, the woman allegedly told Ip not to call on her again. He told the jury the sex made him very late returning to the police station to hand in his gun before going for lunch. Ip admitted asking an officer at the armoury to enter an earlier time in the record. The trial, before Mr Justice Leong, continues today.
