YOUNG people attending a special forum will have a chance to examine their role in society and better understand their identity through an exchange of views with their peers, youth professionals and well-known Hong Kong personalities.
The large-scale open forum marks the 10th anniversary of the International Youth Year. It is organised by the Commission on Youth, the Hong Kong Council of Social Service, the Home Affairs Branch and the Social Welfare Department.
The youth forum will be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from 9.30 am to 5 pm on Sunday. The forum will focus on an examination of the identity of young people in the '90s.
Commission on Youth chairman Eric Li said: 'The forum aims to help young people understand how various social factors influence the development of the identity of young people.' More than 600 youngsters aged between 15 and 25 will take part in group discussions on five issues: the family, education, media, commercial culture, and politics. The discussion will be guided by experienced social workers.
Guest speakers will include legislators Selina Chow Liang Shuk-yee and Christine Loh Kung-wai, Peter Lam Yuk-wah representing the media, and Tsang Yok-sing from the political sector.
To liven up the programme, there will be a performance by pop singers, and dramas to stimulate discussions on how to deal with difficult situations.
