I HAVE read many letters in these columns about visas and citizenship and there is one thing on which I would like some clarification from the Immigration Department. I am a domestic helper who has worked continuously for eight years, so I have been resident in Hong Kong for more than seven years. Would someone like myself be eligible to apply to become a permanent resident and if someone wanted to hire a domestic who had been here as long as me for say full-time, non-domestic, legitimate office work, would the domestic be allowed to do this?
