$2.5m raised in appeal for Somalia
OXFAM Hongkong has raised $2.5 million in its Rice For Life appeal for the starving in Somalia.
The drive closes around the Lunar New Year and director Mr John Torgrimson said about $100,000 was coming in every day.
The first shipment of 700 tonnes of rice has already left Bangkok and is due to reach the kitchens of the International Committee of the Red Cross by the end of next month.
Oxfam Hongkong plans to send 2,500 tonnes of rice, which will feed 200,000 people for a month at a total cost to the international relief organisation of $8 million.
