LOCAL pro-democracy groups voiced their anger at Beijing's decision outside Xinhua (the New China News Agency) headquarters yesterday.
About 20 members of the Hong Kong Alliance in Support of the Patriotic Democratic Movement in China marched from Causeway Bay to the office in Happy Valley.
Carrying a black banner calling for Wei's immediate release, the protesters criticised the Chinese Government for rejecting the dissident's appeal against his 14-year sentence.
Legislator Szeto Wah, the chairman of the alliance - a group which Beijing has branded subversive - said Wei had faced continued political suppression.
'We are outraged that the Beijing Higher People's Court maintains its original judgment. Today's appeal finished as quick as a flash,' he said.
'The decision will affect Hong Kong people's confidence and we will question whether the judicial system in China is fair and impartial.
'We can't keep silent any more as today Wei set an example of what will happen to you and me in future,' Mr Szeto said.
