Mother files writ after son hurt in accident

A MOTHER is suing the owner and driver of a lorry on behalf of her son, who was in a coma for a week after being involved in an accident with the vehicle.

Mrs Lam Yip Yiu-kan, for her son Lam Kwok-chi, 12, claims the accident was due to negligence on the part of the driver, Mr Wan Yun-man, and the owner, Mr Lam Tim-san.

According to a writ which has been filed with the Supreme Court, the boy was crossing Un Chau Street, Shamshuipo, on June 5, 1990, when he was knocked down by the lorry.

His legs were broken and he suffered injuries to his arms.

The writ also states that after the incident, Mr Wan was charged with and pleaded guilty to careless driving at North Kowloon Court on May 21, 1991.
