While safety remains a major concern for bottled-water consumers in Asia, discerning markets in the region are becoming acquainted with the distinctive taste of Snowy Mountain Natural Spring Water from Australia's Macedon Ranges. The consistent flavour, which comes from a sustainable single source at the foothills of Musk, makes Snowy Mountain an iconic brand in Australia.

"Our customers can identify the taste as coming from a particular source," says Tony McMahon, spokesperson for Snowy Mountain, a family-owned business. "The naturally high silica content in the water gives it softness that makes it very pleasant to drink, and they recognise this same experience every time. My granddaughter's aphorism for it is, 'the next one will be the same as the last'."

Snowy Mountain's spring water flows through a series of stainless steel tanks, organically free of sediments before being capped in bisphenol A-free bottles on Melbourne's doorstep, with every batch produced undergoing a full testing report. To protect the sustainability of its source, Snowy Mountain's entire supply chain goes through an annual audit from certification body Australian Organic.

The company is a long-standing sponsor of the National Breast Cancer Foundation's research effort. This has earned recognition for the company from health-conscious women who favour Snowy Mountain for its essential minerals.

Apart from its health benefits, Snowy Mountain is also known for its taste. It topped a blind taste test for locally produced still water and emerged fourth among internationally known brands. This appealing flavour has also made it the brand of choice for selected summer concert series and major tours.

With Asia as an increasingly important export market, Snowy Mountain is actively expanding in the region and has plans to launch its own range of sparkling water. "Inquiries from China have been very encouraging," McMahon says. "Our mission is to deliver a quality Australian product, and we are confident the market will value our offering."
