Innovation in meeting customers' needs is only possible when those needs are thoroughly understood. Heralding Australian innovation in its comprehensive line of flow meters and lubrication equipment, Macnaught has a product development process that enables it to meet customers' needs across industries such as mining, marine and manufacturing.
The latest brainchild of Macnaught's dynamic research and development process is the MX flow meter series, which uses an online software tool that allows customers to customise their flow meters to suit individual application requirements. This completely optimises the production process to reduce cost.
"We've basically taken a product that we've been selling since 1965 and completely redesigned the way that it is manufactured," CEO Robert Hill says. "We've looked at how users interact with that product and made it completely flexible so that any user, no matter what his requirements are, can get the information that he wants out of it in whatever format is required."
In developing its product line, Macnaught has marketers who work hand-in-hand with engineers while remaining in contact with customers. By focusing product development on specific customer requirements, Macnaught lowers cost and enhances performance for customers with products such as hose end oil guns and hose reels with integrated flow meters.
These products meet Asia's growing demand for high-performance measurement equipment and monitoring for fuels and other industrial fluids. Macnaught seeks more Asian distribution partnerships particularly in China and Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia and the Philippines.
It also welcomes partnerships with companies that offer complementary products or complete industrial monitoring systems.
"I would encourage any potential partner who is looking for a sensor to measure flow to have a second look," Hill says. "We've done a lot to make our products practical in a much broader range of applications than they've ever been used for in the past."
