A POLICE constable solicited and accepted bribes from a vegetable wholesaler in return for helping him during an investigation, it was alleged in the District Court yesterday. So Wai-wah, 37, pleaded not guilty to soliciting between $50,000 and $60,000 from a stall holder at Cheung Sha Wan Wholesale Vegetable Market last August. It was claimed that So provided assistance to the stall operator and two of his relatives in an on-going police investigation against them. So also denied two charges of accepting $34,000 from the stall holder for protection during the same inquiry, the District Court heard. Judge Beeson fixed the trial date for April 10. The defendant was released on Independent Commission Against Corruption bail of $10,000 in cash.
