SNORKELLING, scuba diving, sailing, sunbathing, water skiing, gorging on seafood, quaffing expensive wines and getting a million-dollar eyeful of the beautiful, rich, and famous.
That is what Governor Chris Patten and family have been doing at the super-exclusive resort of Amanpulo in the Philippines over the past week.
Mr Patten, wife Lavender, and daughters Laura, Kate and Alice, arrived back in the territory yesterday after the break, which was set up with the strictest secrecy.
Even the British Embassy was only told at the last minute where he would be staying and only because it had to play the middleman in one or two ongoing affairs of state.
The resort owners are loath to discuss their 'confidential' list of clients, but they are known to include European and Asian royalty, Hollywood stars, politicians, millionaire businessmen and anyone else who can afford US$350 (HK$2,700) to US$500 a night.
Guests are taken from Ninoy Aquino international airport to a nearby hangar then spirited by twin-engined aircraft to Amanpulo, which means 'Peaceful Island'.
