ONLY about one-sixth of the suspect milk drinks produced at the Vitasoy Tuen Mun plant had been recovered last night in the wake of complaints the drink tasted sour.
Of the 42,000 Vitasoy Soya Milk drink-packs the firm decided to recall, only 7,048 had been located by about 6 pm.
Twelve of the packs were picked up for testing yesterday by Regional Council health inspectors.
The Hong Kong-manufactured drinks in the 250-millilitre size have a September 30, 1996, expiry date with the code '29D' stamped on the bottom and were produced on September 29 last year.
According to a company spokesman, Vitasoy would continue investigations and had initiated the recall to safeguard consumer loyalty in an act of 'responsible corporate citizenship'.
Some 1.7 million 250 ml paper-packed products bearing the bar code beginning with the digit '6' manufactured at the company's Shenzhen plant have been recalled.
