A HIGH-POWERED Jockey Club delegation left for Beijing yesterday for a week-long visit that will include talks with leading government figures.
The six directors of the various branches of the multi-billion dollar body governing racing in the territory are in the delegation, which numbers 15 and includes senior veterinary surgeon, Keith Watkins, who will remain in China for several days after the visit.
Director of Racing Philip Johnston leads the mission and the other senior members are director of betting Henry Chan; director of finance and central services Paulus Lee; director of information technology James Markwell; director of corporate affairs and charities David Yau Po-wing; and director of membership services David T. P. Auyeung.
The delegation is expected to brief mainland officials on the running and operations of racing in the territory and will attend briefings at Chingwah University.
The importance of the mission is underlined by the seniority of those in the Jockey Club party.
Only the outgoing chief executive, Major-General Guy Watkins, remains in Hong Kong.
