Moran cleared to play in clash between Irish

DEFENDER Kevin Moran has been cleared by FIFA to play in Ireland's next World Cup qualifier against Northern Ireland in two months' time.

Moran was in danger of missing the game after a case of mistaken identity landed him a one-match ban.

Moran was cautioned in a European Group Three game against Spain last November, but soccer's governing body wrongly credited him with a yellow card offence against Denmark a month earlier.

The Irish soccer federation said it had been confirmed that the referee had cautioned Niall Quinn, not Moran, in the Danish match.
