TEN years ago the laser printer market exploded with the introduction of Apple's LaserWriter. That was made possible because Canon, Apple and Adobe put together an innovative product.
Today, laser printers are common in homes as well, not just in offices.
There is, however, a new revolution happening right now, according to Takehiko Takizawa, general manager of the computer and peripheral division of Epson Hong Kong.
Mr Takizawa spent many years in Germany and has only recently arrived in Hong Kong.
The Hong Kong market, according to Mr Takizawa, is one of the most sophisticated in the world.
'Like other industrialised countries, Hong Kong has become a market that accepts more and more colour applications. The year 1995 was a turning point for colour printers to be accepted. More than half of our sales in Hong Kong were colour printers in the second half of 1995,' Mr Takizawa said.
If 1995 was the year colour printing took off, then this year will be the year colour printing comes of age and dominates the market, according to Mr Takizawa.
