A ROBBER was jailed for eight years yesterday after telling a judge he was prepared to give evidence in a disciplinary hearing involving 10 policemen.
Wong Kwok-hung, 28, had already testified in criminal proceedings which saw four policemen jailed for their part in a brawl with Customs officers. A police inquiry is under way into 10 other officers also alleged to have been involved.
John McLanachan, mitigating for Wong, said he had been asked to give evidence in those proceedings and now agreed to do so, and should 'receive some benefit from society for this'.
But Mr Justice Patrick Chan said the help Wong had given to the authorities was not connected with the robbery for which he was to be sentenced.
Wong was earlier found guilty of taking part in a December 3, 1992 robbery on a Kowloon warehouse.
