HARRY Wu Hongda, the Chinese-American human rights activist detained and expelled by China for alleged spying last year, says a visit to Hong Kong he began on Friday should not lead to mainland retribution.
'What is there that is to be afraid of? I have not feared anything for so many years, wouldn't it be strange to be scared just now? 'And I have not planned to do anything but visit my friends,' the 59-year-old said yesterday.
Mr Wu, who was expelled after being sentenced to 15 years in jail, said there was no need for Beijing to view him as a thorn in its side.
He also said he wanted to return to China in the future.
'China is my motherland and the land was filled with my tears and blood.
'Nobody could obstruct my return and nobody should pose any obstruction against me,' he said.
Mr Wu, an American passport holder, said he would look into returning to China after resting and visiting friends.
