Coach Brownlee's thirst for success remains unquenchable
IT might have been the heady mix of champagne and San Miguel beer, but a cock-a-hoop Ian Brownlee predicted immediately after Valley had made a clean sweep of the top two divisions in the league that his side would win the Premiership competition too.
'We are going for everything this season. We have already won the Knockout Cup and now the league. The Premiership is our target now and the chances are very good.' His players were celebrating Valley Red's crowning, frosted by their 14-7 victory over a strong Football Club outfit in the final game of this year's successful split strength, First Division League competition.
Successful simply because the tournament provided a competitive format for the majority of the clubs.
However, as far as providing a competitive base for the territory's top players, the tournament fell far short of that target.
Brownlee admits as much. 'Most of the players are capable of playing at a higher level, a better game tactically for instance. The Premiership will give the opportunity for the players to play at this level.
'It is important that they change their attitudes. They will have to play far better rugby than they played in the league to win the Premiership,' he said.
He is confident that Valley can achieve these targets. But one of the big problems facing Brownlee is how to try and fit all his players into one side for the Premiership which starts this Saturday.
