TAIWAN'S Yeh Chang-ting seized the biggest pay-day of his career when he won the US$500,000 Omega PGA Championship by a convincing five strokes at Clearwater Bay yesterday.

The 29-year-old, who plays on the Japanese Tour, fired a final round of three-under-par 67 for a nine-under 271 to comfortably win over Welshman Mark Mouland and take home the first prize of US$80,750.

South Africa's Richard Kaplan snatched third place from American Mike Cunning with a four-round total of 277, one behind Mouland, following his final round of five-under-par 65.

In winning the title, Yeh erased the bad memories of his last venture in the territory last November, when he led after the third round of the Hong Kong Open but was unable to maintain his advantage, eventually finishing third.

But he never looked like he would crumble yesterday, taking a four-stroke lead into the final day, and virtually sealing his victory as early as the par-four ninth hole, when he hit his tee-shot to within eight feet of the pin and narrowly missed an eagle putt.

His subsequent birdie put him seven-under for the tournament and as he headed for the 10th, victory was in his sights.
