AN immigration officer was acquitted of soliciting sexual services from an illegal immigrant in return for extending her permit of stay.
But Chiu Sin-wai, 33, who worked at Lowu control point, still faces charges of forging a stamp on the woman's travel document and of assisting her to leave Hong Kong without being prosecuted for overstaying, after magistrate Patrick Li ruled he had a case to answer. Chiu denies the charges.
Yu Zhang Biyun, 27, from Hunan, told North Kowloon Court Chiu had asked her to be his 'girlfriend' after the officer stamped two new chops on her two-way permit on August 10, 1994.
She was told the forged stamps showed a two-month extension of her stay, the court heard.
But in a submission, John Necholas, for Chiu, said an invitation to be one's girlfriend did not amount to a request for sexual favours.
He also cast doubts on Mrs Yu's credibility, saying she had deliberately lied to the court.
