HIGHLY-IMPRESSIVE youngster Sea Jade (3-1) was scarcely extended under Lance O'Sullivan to win the Class Three eighth event at Sha Tin yesterday.
The multiple New Zealand champion jockey had no worries in this 1,400-metre event which ended up as little more than a tough training gallop for the Lawrie Fownes-trained three-year-old.
Sea Jade had been perfectly drawn against the rails and O'Sullivan had him trotting along early in the race. From that point on he basically dictated terms and went sweetly clear in the straight to win as he pleased by three-and-a-quarter lengths from Winning Lad (7-1).
The Patrick Biancone-trained Charming Guest (5-2 favourite) flopped in this higher company after winning comfortably at his previous outing.
Sea Jade is owned by the Royal Hong Kong Golf Club syndicate who rarely get a bad one, but the New Zealand import must be about the best they've raced.
Certainly O'Sullivan is appreciative.
