CHRISTY Chung Lai-tai admits she is happy to be working.

Despite a downturn in the local film industry that has put many actors out of work, the Montreal-born actress has managed to work constantly since arriving in the territory in May 1993.

With 15 movie appearances to her credit, Chung is currently working on the comedy film The Lucky Go Round with Nat Chan Pak-cheung, Alan Tam Wing-lun and Hacken Lee. The film is scheduled for release in the Lunar New Year.

'It's a comedy where Michael Wong and I are from heaven and we're not supposed to fall in love. Then we get punished by the gods and get sent back to earth,' Chung said. 'It got a good cast and I think it will do well.' Chung said she felt she was improving as an actress, despite never having taken acting lessons.

'I'm not saying I'm the best actress, but I can assure you that I improve with every movie. If you asked me to watch my first movie (Sting II) I would refuse - I would feel very embarrassed. But I am learning all the time and getting better.

'I don't see myself as a bad actress, it's just that sometimes I may be in a bad movie. Nowadays there are not a lot of scripts to pick from and I do have to make a living. I wish I could get better scripts,' she said.

Chung, whose native language is French, said her Cantonese is getting better and that she has shot her last two films using her own voice. When she first arrived in the territory she couldn't speak any Cantonese.
