CROSS-BORDER coaches are finally to have a base in the territory.
A 2,000-square metre coach terminal is to be operated from the Scout Association of Hong Kong headquarters in Austin Road, Tsim Sha Tsui.
The Transport Department is organising a tender for the management and operation of the terminal, which has been built in the basement of the 25-storey building.
According to the senior transport officer in the business management division, Cheung Po-ki, the successful tender will provide the latest electronic passenger information system at the terminal.
Mr Cheung said the base would help relieve traffic congestion, as coaches currently use on-street pick-up points.
The sheltered base will provide eight loading areas, which can handle more than 16 coaches at a time.
