THE science fair at the Canadian Overseas Secondary School not only showed students' interest in the subject but also their growing concern about health and social issues.

Going beyond the conventional experiment demonstrations like test-tube handling and solution mixing, students addressed issues such as nuclear testing and the construction of the Tsing Ma Bridge in their applied science projects.

Adolfo Lue Kwong, together with two classmates, displayed the mechanism of nuclear reaction to help fellow students understand the hazards of nuclear testing.

'So many people were killed in the atomic blast in Japan during World War II,' said Adolfo.

'We believe everyone should know about it.

'People around the world are protesting against French nuclear testing.

'Maybe we can inspire potential scientists to invent something to dispose of nuclear waste.' Eighteen-year-old Polly Ma Po-kwan and Chris Tsui Kin-yan were no less enthusiastic.
