I HAVE been a resident of Sha Tin Heights Road for 17 years and have followed the correspondence about the traffic problems on Tai Po Road with great interest.
In the past two months, there have been a number of accidents at the junction of Tai Po Road and Fu Sing Road.
I have been rear-ended at the traffic lights while stationary. Also, I have watched my rear-view mirror with great foreboding as a fully-laden container truck approached me, crossing from the left to the right lane, across double lines to the opposite side of the road, running through the red light and coming to a stop on the other side of the lights.
Luckily, there was no traffic in the junction at the time. The driver said his brakes had failed - before continuing on to the border. Two weeks ago at this spot, a petrol tanker was rear-ended by a container truck.
Last Saturday, I was in a traffic jam behind another accident involving a container truck, a large lorry and a petrol tanker. Imagine if the tanker had been holed and petrol had spilled or even ignited.
Recently, a government spokesman said this junction was not a traffic black spot.
