A LIFETIME of working with books could take on a new meaning for librarian Elizabeth Han after she scooped first prize in the South China Morning Post /RTHK short story competition.
Ms Han, 50, of Pokfulam, is considering writing her first novel - but not before she has jetted off to London, courtesy of a British Airways return ticket presented to her yesterday by Post editor Jonathan Fenby.
It was her second literary success but by far the most rewarding, said the Hong Kong University law librarian, who wrote about two children striving to save a dog their father planned to banish from the home.
'I won a short story competition in south Wales 10 years ago, but the prize was a crate of Hungarian red wine, which wasn't the best.
The flight tickets will definitely be more useful,' she said.
Junior section winner Lynda Ng Wai-ying, 14, also won two British Airways tickets. She will treat her mum Suzy to their first trip to Britain.
