Samaritans
IN the aftermath of the Lan Kwai Fong tragedy, I support the views of Ephraem P. Tsui (South China Morning Post, January 8) that listening is a powerful tool in helping a person who has been involved in a traumatic experience to come to terms with their feelings.
The Samaritans, whose primary aim is to help the suicidal and despairing run a 24-hour confidential hotline service, manned mainly by English speaking volunteers, although Cantonese speakers are also available at certain times of the day. The telephone number is 834 3333.
