HENRY Yeung has been appointed general manager of the Qi Shi Hotel, the first internationally managed hotel in Xinyang, which will open early in 1996.

This was announced by Mr Ernst Zimmermann, president of the management company, Koppen Yan Zimmermann (International) Ltd.

Mr Yeung will oversee the hotel which is under construction on a 3,000 square metre site in the heart of the city.

Mr Yeung has a proven track record gained in various hotels including Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong, Shangri-La Hotel Beijing, Grand View Garden Hotel Beijing, Kowloon Panda Hotel and Harbin Flamingo Hotel.

Hong Kong-born Mr Yeung, 35, is a graduate in Hotel Management from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and speaks English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Shanghainese.

CHAN-CHAMPAGNE & Co, a Hong Kong-based executive search and human resources consultancy, announces the appointment of Chris Strachan as associate director responsible for the fast moving consumer goods practice sector.

 Mr Strachan, who has spent 35 years in Asia's food and consumer products industry, has held senior executive positions at John D. Hutchison, The Swire Group and, most recently, United Biscuits from which he recently retired as managing director - China.

INTERNATIONAL accountancy and professional services from Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu announces the appointment of a new management consulting director, Alka Sood, and the admission of a new management consulting partner, Don Rae, to the company's Hong Kong office.

  A native of Toronto in Canada, Ms Sood graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Commerce, and from the University of Western Ontario with a Master of Business Administration degree.

 Ms Sood specialises in strategic cost management. She also has a strong background in financial management and performance measurement with more than eight years experience in this area with Deloitte & Touche Management Consultant in Canada.

 A native of Toronto, Mr Rae graduated from the University of Guelph with a Bachelor of Commerce, and from the University of Western Ontario with a Master of Business Administration degree.

 Mr Rae was with Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu in Canada for a number of years and has been with the Hong Kong office for the past two years. He specialises in strategy and financial management consulting for large corporate clients in Hong Kong, China and the Asia-Pacific region.

  His industry focus is on infrastructure related projects in the telecommunications, power generation and road sectors.

JOHN Dryburgh has been appointed an associate for consulting engineers Scott Wilson Kirkpatrick (Hong Kong) Ltd (SWK).

 Mr Dryburgh joined Scott Wilson Kirkpatrick in 1989 and has 24 years engineering experience specialising in water and waste-water projects.

  Since coming to Hong Kong in 1991, he has been responsible for key elements of the Hong Kong Government's $1.7 billion cross-border project for reception and distribution of water supply from Guangdong.

  He will be responsible for the implementation of SWK's many water and waste-water projects in Hong Kong, China and the region.

THE Hong Kong Hotels Association (HKTA) has announced that James Lu Shien-hwai has taken up his appointment as deputy executive director.

  The new post has been specially created with a view to his eventual succession of Manuel Woo, the present executive director, who is due to retire next year.

 Mr Lu brings with him extensive experience in the hospitality industry, having served as deputy executive director of the Hong Kong Tourist Association since July 1986, prior to which he was general manager of staff and management services. He also held office as Secretary to the HKTA's Board of Management, and represented the HKTA on various governmental and trade bodies and associations. Prior to joining the HKTA, Mr Lu gained considerable experience of finance, administration and planning through key posts with the Dow Chemical Company, the Swire Group, Union Carbide Corporation, Carlingford Swire Assurance Group and Wang Pacific Limited.

FEDERAL Express Corporation (FedEx) has announced that John Allison has been promoted to the position of vice-president - South Pacific region.

  He replaces Michael Ducker, who has recently been appointed senior vice-president to head up the company's Asia Pacific Division.

  David Ross, formerly director of FedEx (Australasia) Pty Ltd, has been promoted to managing director, replacing Mr Allison in Hong Kong.

 In his new position, Mr Allison will be responsible for planning, organising and implementing FedEx's operations in the South Pacific region, responsible for Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific Islands, and Indochina.

 Mr Allison joined FedEx as a service engineer for the Michigan District in 1984 and was then promoted to become senior manager of the Detroit Station in 1985.

  He was appointed senior manager of Troy Station in 1986.

  Later that year, he was promoted to the position of managing director - Northland District.

 Prior to his assignment in Hong Kong, Mr Allison held the position of managing director of Australia and New Zealand operations for three years.

 He was responsible for overseeing the acquisition of Rainers Transport and the merger of the Australia and New Zealand branches of Flying Tigers with FedEx. SINO-Swiss Financial Services Ltd has appointed Barkis Ip, as agency director.

  Mr Ip's early specialisation was financial management, but over the last 15 years he has had a thorough mix of strategy, organisation development, training, sales and marketing, having previously worked with ManuLife, Lambert Brothers, NZI and AIA (Australia).

 Mr Ip will be responsible for building and managing a professional team of financial planning consultants and managers, and developing and implementing the company's strategy in providing financial services in Hong Kong. LIM Yew-guan, former Deputy Director of Housing Department, has joined the Guardian Management Group (GMG) as deputy managing director.

 Mr Lim had been with Housing Department for 34 years and has experienced many changes in the development of local public housing.

  During his term, Mr Lim was responsible for policy making and implementation of the Home Ownership Scheme and the privatisation of management of Home Ownership Scheme estates.

  He has been the chairman of the Chartered Institute of Housing and is now president of Hong Kong Institute of Housing.

  He has contributed much to the training of local professionals and the upgrading of service quality in the department.
