THE New Territories has turned pink and orange - its orchards growing tangerines and peach trees for Lunar New Year are having their best year for ages.
A worker at the Chi Kee Garden in Tai Po, Wong Mui-chun (pictured), said the tangerines had done well in the cool conditions.
Farm owner Yeung Cheong-yuen said that despite the good crop, prices would be up about 10 per cent on last year.
Branches of the peach blossoms, small tangerine trees with their fruit intact and flowers of all kinds are sold at markets on Lunar New Year's Eve - this year on Sunday, February 18.
The largest market will be at Victoria Park, where an all-night bazaar attracts hundreds of thousands of people for a family night out.
Chrysanthemums are also favoured as they symbolise happiness and an easy life.
