THE nephew of Allied Group's former chairman is to give evidence against an ex-employee accused of stealing $14 million from four companies, the District Court heard yesterday.

Polly Chan Wai-mui, 31, a former senior accounts clerk at Excel-in Limited, faced 30 charges of theft, prosecutor Robert Lee told the court.

No plea was taken.

Gary Plowman QC, defending, told Judge Sweeney that the prosecution's case would be entirely dependent on the evidence of Lee Seng-lin, Excel-in's director.

He said Mr Lee, the nephew of former chairman of the Allied Group Lee Ming Tee, had been interviewed by the Securities and Futures Commission and by a government inspector, Nicholas Allen.
