DESPITE the hype surrounding a new photo system, analysts do not expect it to provide much of a near-term boost to profits at China-Hongkong Photo Products, the sole agent of Fuji photo products in Hong Kong and China. One analyst said the substantial promotion expenses on the new film and cameras were likely to outstrip any income in the short term. 'The new products are expected to generate only a meagre 1 or 2 per cent of the group's total profit after being brought into the local market,' he said. Managing director Dennis Sun Tai-lun said he expected the new system - Advanced Photo System (APS) which includes films, cameras, and photo-finishing equipment - to start contributing to profit next year. Mr Sun predicted the new system would gain increasing popularity and would eventually dominate the territory's photo market. Analysts said there was a long way to go before that point was reached. Mr Sun said he was equally optimistic about the mainland market, where Fuji film has a 50 per cent market share.
