THE Jockey Club's new chief executive went on an extensive familiarisation tour of Sha Tin yesterday and made it plain that change is on the way - at least at grassroots level, writes Robin Parke.
Former Ford Motors boss in Taiwan, Lawrence Wong, was accompanied by Director of Racing Philip Johnston as he dropped in late at trackwork and then spent the rest of the morning touring all Sha Tin-based facilities of the Jockey Club. As he met trainers, assistant trainers and other regular morning trackwork attenders it was a case of 'Hi, I'm Larry Wong'. For those used to almost three decades of British Army generals, it was something of a shock.
Wong, who arrived towards the end of trackwork, had a foretaste of what his new position means when he was the immediate centre of a media scrum.
