First winner makes Jones a believer

A Monkee off his back . . . former Monkees pop star Davy Jones (right) rode his first winner at the age of 50 in a race for amateur riders at Lingfield in England this week.
The winning horse Digpast, the 100-30 second favourite, was a birthday present for Jones from his actress daughter Sarah (left). Jones, who has ridden in other races from time to time, said: 'That's show business. It is one of the greatest thrills of my life. I must thank my trainer Roland O'Sullivan.' O'Sullivan said: 'When Davy rang me I said I had a horse that might suit him. But I warned him that Digpast was a bit of a monkey!'
